On the evening of October 15, 21-year-old Jake Patterson drove up to the Closs home. James Closs, Jayme's father, was shot and killed by Patterson when he was checking who had parked outside his house.
After discovering them inside the house, Patterson made Denise cover her daughter's lips with black tape before shooting and killing her.
On January 10, after three months of looking, a woman walking her dog discovered Jayme.
All Patterson said was, "I did it."
According to the criminal complaint filed against Patterson by the Barron County District Attorney on Monday, January 14, "The defendant states, when he saw (Jayme), he knew that was the girl he was going to take."
Patterson admitted to detectives that he had made two attempts to abduct Jayme Closs prior to October 15.
Patterson claimed that when he traveled to the house a week before to the kidnapping, he was taken aback by the sheer volume of cars in the driveway. He tried again a few days later, but the lights in the home and the people outside scared him away. Jayme told authorities that she was abducted and her parents died soon after she got up on October 15 to find out why her dog was barking and noticed a car pulling up the driveway.
Kate and Gerry McCann, the parents of 3-year-old Madeleine McCann, who disappeared in 2007 while in Portugal, have found hope in their daughter's return after hearing about Jayme Closs's escape from her kidnapper.
Despite the fact that Madeleine's fate is still unknown, her parents are determined to find her alive.
