I handle QA for a small company that’s about to release an Android app. We need to test account registration, SMS codes, push notifications, permissions, and app updates on several devices, but buying a pile of physical phones for occasional testing seems excessive. DuoPlus Cloud Phone looks like it could give our remote team access to separate Android devices from their computers. Would it work for this kind of testing, and what should we check before paying for several cloud phones?

Can DuoPlus replace our Android test phones?

A scripted sequence can confirm that the buttons respond, but it may miss an error that appears on only one device. SMS delivery, notification permissions, and updates also need to be checked separately because one successful registration doesn’t prove that the rest of the app works. Set up one cloud phone with the staging version and complete the entire registration and update process manually. After that, repeat the same test on a small device group and save the screenshots and logs outside the cloud phones.

The subscription price isn’t the only cost to consider because each phone also needs connection time and a working proxy. Slow startup or lag can become a serious problem when the same test has to be repeated across several devices. You can read about DuoPlus Cloud Phone here: https://gologin.com/blog/duoplus-cloud-phone-review/ . The review includes hands-on tests of startup speed, multi-phone synchronization, automation, and the additional proxy costs. Run one complete regression test during the trial and count how many minutes the whole device group actually uses before expanding the setup.
